What is it?
The gastric balloon is a non-surgical intervention to assist in weight loss!
A soft, vegan, inflatable balloon made of medical-grade polyurethane, is placed inside the stomach through the mouth without any need for surgery or endoscopy. After insertion and inflation of the balloon, it will work to reduce appetite and prolong the feeling of fullness by occupying more space inside the stomach.
Who is it recommended for?
This ‘procedureless’ balloon is a revolutionary solution for those who have tried most of the other methods but failed to lose or maintain their results. It is recommended for patients who are not eligible for bariatric surgery, patients with medical conditions that will be improved with weight loss, for the treatment of obesity and infertility in cases like PCOS, or just for weight loss for a big occasion like a wedding or a vacation!
How it works
The ‘procedureless’ Allurion balloon will self-deflate and will then pass naturally into the toilet.
Placement of the Allurion balloon takes approximately 20 minutes and is performed while the patient is awake. 2 x-rays will be taken after swallowing the capsule and after inflation of the balloon to make sure the balloon is located correctly in your stomach. The patient will be monitored for a short period before allowing him/ her to return home.
What happens next?
The patient will receive an Allurion Connected Scale, Allurion Health Tracker, as well as the Allurion App. Their doctor will be able to track their progress and provide support and guidance towards their weight-loss journey.
After approximately 16 weeks in the stomach, a valve on the balloon opens and the balloon deflates before it is passed naturally into the toilet.
